One of the impressive things
about 80 Series Land Cruisers has been that although they are one of the
finest off road vehicles ever made, they also handled very nicely on road.
That is as long as you didn't lift them above 2 inches from stock. Lifts of
3-6 inches change the angles between the control arms, panhard rods, and the
frame of the vehicle to the point that the axles shift sideways, the pinion
angles are off, and the front caster angle is such that the vehicle will
handle poorly. One way to deal with these alignment problems is to lengthen
the control arms and panhard rods to re-align the axles, pinion angles, and
front end caster angle. The drawback to this
method, is that the steep angles of the control arms, and panhard rods that
causes the exaggerated axle movement is still present, and
any cycling of the suspension, or cornering results in more of this
misalignment. Basically the only time a vehicle with this type of
"fix" is aligned properly is when it is sitting still. The other option for
dealing with this misalignment is to drop the control arms, and panhard rods
to their stock alignment with the frame. Our 4+Plus drop brackets are
designed to relocate the fixed mounting points of the control arms and
panhard rods to 4 inches lower than stock, and put them back into the "sweet
spot" where they were designed to work. With a lift of 6 inches using these
brackets the control arms and panhard rods will be at the same alignment to
the frame as a stock 80 series with 2 inches of lift. A 3-4 inch lift will
not require the use of Polyurethane caster correction bushings on the front
end, allowing the use of the stock, longer lasting, rubber bushings.
Installation of the entire kit requires the drilling of only 3 holes. All
brackets are manufactured by 4+Plus from 1/4" plate steel and are reinforced
to resist the heavy torque loads of off roading. All necessary installation
hardware is supplied.
80 Series Front Control Arm Drop Brackets
One of the more critical angles of alignment is the front caster
angle. When you lift an 80 series the front axle is moved away from
the frame, the front of the control arm drops, and the axle rotates,
causing the caster angle to decrease with the result that the
vehicle will tend to wander and be difficult to steer in a straight
line. This bracket kit is designed to drop the fixed end of the OEM
front control arms 4 inches and bring the caster back to stock
alignment @ 4" of lift and into the center of the designed travel
arc. On vehicles w/3-4 inches of lift, stock bushings are
retained. On vehicles w/5-6 inches of lift, caster correction
bushings will be required. Installation requires no drilling. Sold
in pairs.

80 Series Rear Upper & Lower Control Arm Drop
Brackets
When lifting an 80 series the rear control arms swing down, and change the
pinion angle in relation to the drive shaft, and move the
axle forward. These 4 inch drop brackets bring the controls arms and axle
back into alignment, and into the center of their designed
travel arc @ 4" of lift. Requires drilling of 2 holes for installation of
upper brackets. No drilling required for lower brackets. Sold each.
