| Kangaroo Paw Cooling
System First is the most obvious, DBA's exclusive, patented "Kangaroo Paw" cooling system found on their ventilated rotors. Other ventilated rotors use vanes(curved or straight) that allow for hollow tubes through the center of the rotor for air flow to help cool them down. The 2 sides of the rotor are "pinned" or held together by these vanes. As the brakes are applied and the rotor heats up the area where the rotors are not pinned expands more than the pinned area, creating DTV(Disc Thickness Variation) which can lead to chattering or shaking. On DBA ventilated rotors with the "Kangaroo Paw" cooling system there are 144 strategically shaped and located pillars, instead of vanes. The pillars closest to the center of the hub where air enters the rotor are shaped like an impeller pump blade, and actually pump the air through the rotor. These pillars provide more surface area than straight vanes and are located in order to maximize air contact, and heat transfer. This allows DBA rotors to run 20% cooler than a standard vane rotor in similar braking conditions. Another benefit of these pillars is that it spreads the "pinning" of the 2 sides of the rotor evenly. This delivers a much stronger rotor, with extreme resistance to DTV and warping. Quality of Manufacture DBA rotors are cast and machined in Australia under the control of a single family run business. Other manufacturers will often have their casting made in a third world country, and then machine these castings in the USA to keep costs down. DBA controls the exact materials content in their castings, the cool down procedure, and quality testing. This is why DBA rotors have a runout measured in Microns, not thousandths of an inch. Slotting Slotting on the contact surface of the rotor increases pad bite, helps reduce fade and delivers exceptional braking performance. Slots continually de-glaze the brake pads, improving efficiency and reducing rotor scoring. Slots also help dissipate water when driving in poor weather, as well as pump away dust and dirt. Cross Drilling Cross Drilling rotors adds a high performance look to your vehicle, and aids in expelling friction gases. Cross drilling must be done very carefully not to weaken the structural integrity of the rotor. DBA does all cross drilling in house, and is careful not to take off too much material, which would result in a lower mass, and corresponding loss of heat transfer ability. Cross Drilling is not recommended for track or competition applications. TSP Thermal Stress Profiling DBA 4000 series rotors go through an additional process during manufacture called TSP or Thermal Stress Profiling, which through the controlled application of high heat and cool down after machining, stabilizes the molecular structure of the rotor. This yields a rotor that is extremely resistant to warping and damage from high heat loads associated with repeated heavy braking. DBA 4000 series brake rotors are the highest level, direct replacement performance rotors available for your Land Cruiser. Thermo-Graphic Paint DBA 4000 series rotors have been painted on the outer edge with heat sensitive color stripes that change color as certain core temperatures are achieved. Direct Replacement, No Mods Required Best of all DBA rotors are made as direct replacement units. Installation of these high performance brake rotors requires no modifications to your vehicle, and install exactly in the same manner as OEM rotors. |
