This is probably the best option to obtain lower gears without having to
modify drive shafts, add shift levers, or change ring & pinions. The Orion
is a cast iron transfer case housing that replaces your original aluminum
main housing on Early -7/80 Land Cruisers with a 1 piece transfer case. It
comes with a complete new gear set (except PTO gear) that features an ultra
low 4:1.00 low range. Once assembled the Orion will bolt directly to your
OEM transmission in either 10 or 16 spline configuration. You will need to
use your OEM shift lever and mechanism, top, side and rear covers, your OEM
front extension housing, flange, rear bearing cover, parking brake shoes,
hardware, drum, main out put shaft, front output shaft and slider, and hi-lo
slider. If coupled to an Australian 4 speed w/4.84 1st gear, and 4.88 ring
and pinions, the Orion will deliver a 94.48:1 ratio to the wheels. The gear
set in the Orion is made in Japan, and are as quiet as the gears they
replace. The bearings supplied are all high quality Japanese made, and the
hardware is all equal to or better than OEM spec. Man-A-Fre offers the Orion
in kit form as shown, or fully assembled for those that want their Orion
ready to bolt-on. For those looking for even more, we can assemble your
Orion and attach it to a rebuilt Australian 4 speed, ready to bolt in. Of
course our repair facilities are available to do complete installs with
almost any combination imaginable.
