OXYGEN SENSOR OEM AND AFTERMARKET

Oxygen sensors are installed in the exhaust stream and measure the amount of oxygen left after combustion has occurred and translates the information into a voltage signal of between 0 -1 volt. This signal is sent to the vehicles ECU(electronic control unit) which uses this reading to determine if the engine is running lean, rich or just right and adjusts the fuel injection system accordingly. Oxygen sensors are wear items, similar to spark plugs and have a finite life span. Your vehicles service manual will tell you at what mileage range to change your oxygen sensors. If a worn out oxygen sensor is not replaced the vehicle’s performance and fuel economy will be adversely affected. Bad oxygen sensors may also turn on your “Check Engine” light.

1980-1987 US version Land Cruisers that are equipped with a carburetor and a Catalytic Convertor have a “heat sensor” not an oxygen sensor. This sensor is used to determine if the catalytic convertor is overheating and through a control unit turns off the air injection in order to allow the catalytic convertor to cool down. 1988-1/1995 FJ62/FJ80/FZJ80 run 2 side by side oxygen sensors in front of the 2 side by side catalytic convertors. 1/1995-1997 FZJ80’s have 2 in-line catalytic convertors with 1 oxygen sensor in front of the catalytic convertors and a second oxygen sensor behind the catalytic convertors. 1998-2007 UZJ100 Land Cruisers have a oxygen sensor in front of the catalytic convertors on each bank of the V-8 and 2 oxygen sensors behind the cats for a total of 4 sensors on the vehicle.

We offer OEM and aftermarket sensors for most applications. DENSO is the OEM manufacturer of Toyota oxygen sensors. Sensors are sold each except where noted as a kit. Number in parenthesis shows how many sensors are required per car. DENSO labeled sensors include the mounting gasket.
