At Man-A-Fre we are proud to offer what we feel are the best all around leaf
springs available for the 60 series Land Cruiser. While designing these new
springs, we set out some specific goals. We wanted the best ride quality
possible, with excellent load carrying capability. We wanted the springs to
be the most flexible available, but still deliver optimum control and
handling. And we wanted high quality, long life springs at a competitive
price. To accomplish all of this, we knew that we would have to set a new
standard for Land Cruiser leaf springs with some very specific features.
Although we know there are already many choices available for 60 series leaf
springs, we have always felt most of these either delivered sub standard
ride quality, or limited load carrying capability. Our front 60 Series
springs are a 7 leave pack, with a spring rate of 215 lbs/in. Our rear dual
stage springs feature an 8 leaf primary pack, with 3 second stage load
leaves. Primary spring rate is 214 lbs/in , with a 2nd stage rate of 405
lbs/in. By building our springs with a high number of leaves we are able to
deliver unparalleled ride quality along with impressive load carrying
capability. Springs have a high initial free arc to deliver long wheel
travel potential, and excellent tire contact pressure during articulation.
We install Galvanized liners at the center between all leaves*. This reduces
contact between the leaves, allowing them to move freely without having to
overcome the friction this inter-leaf contact would cause, resulting in
dramatically improved ride quality and flexibility. The main leafs have tip
inserts to further reduce inter-leaf friction. Leaf clamps are of the
shackle type to allow for free movement.
One of the most visually apparent features of our Mojave springs are the
Berlin Eyes. The spring eyes hold the bushings that attach the springs to
the frame by means of a pin or bolt through them at one end and shackles
that allow movement at the other end. On leaf spring suspensions the springs
also act as the control arms and locate the axles in relation to the frame,
and transfer acceleration and braking forces into the chassis through the
eye. The Berlin eyes concentrate these forces at the centerline of the eye,
reducing lateral deflection and stress on the eye itself. This makes the
Berlin eye the strongest of leaf spring eyes. Another benefit of this design
is better control, and maximized wheel travel. We add a full military wrap
at the fixed pin end for added safety.
To help lower stress and further improve life span, leaves are shot-peened
on the tension side. We also incorporate a flat axle seat area which allows
the U-bolts to be tightened without having to “bend” the springs flat at the
seat.
Mojave spring eyes are the same metric internal diameter and width as OEM 60
series springs and can use any OEM sized bushing you prefer.
FEATURES:
Galvanized Liners Between Leafs:
Galvanized liners are installed between all leafs* at center section to
reduce contact and friction.
Tip Inserts:
Further reduce inter-leaf friction.
Dual Stage Rear Springs:
3 leaf second stage on rear springs provides excellent load capability,
while maintaining optimum ride quality.
Flat Center Axle Seat:
Allows for a positive mount to the axle, lowers the stress on the U-Bolts,
and the spring itself leading to a longer life span. Also allows for more
defined Caster alignment.
Berlin Eyes:
Strongest of all bushing eyes, reduces stress by directing acceleration and
braking forces into center of the eye. This design helps alleviate spring
wrap, and reduces front to rear movement of the axle as the suspension moves
through its’ travel cycle.
Shot Peening:
Shot peening improves spring life and reduces stress.
Full Military Wrap:
A full military wrap at the “load” eye provides extra strength and safety in
harsh environments.
*Load Leaves do not have galvanized liners
Springs are available individually, in sets of four with bushings, and in
full suspension kits. Our full suspension kit using our 4+Plus Shackle
Reversal Kit will yield a lift of around 5” over stock height. If you are
looking for lower lift, or lighter load rating , call our sales office for
