This kit is designed to mate a Chevy Small
Block V-8 to the stock Land Cruiser 4 speed transmission as found on
1974-1982 Land Cruisers. The conversion components are manufactured to
provide the best possible engine location with the least amount of
modifications. The adapter for mating the stock 4 speed tranny is a simple
spacer plate which does not require any special transmission modifications.
The engine mounts are made for either bolting or welding into the existing
frame rails, can be adjusted for various engine positions, and feature a
unique design that provides a positive means of holding the engine to the
frame, while cushioning shock and engine vibrations. With these mounts it is
impossible to separate the engine from the frame without shearing the bolts.
The rear support for the drivetrain consists of a special crossmember that
bolts to the back of the Toyota transfer case and extends outward to the
frame rails. To install this rear crossmember there will be some welding
required due to the large holes in the frame. To position the engine with
the proper firewall clearances it is required to relocate the transfer case
forward of the original location. This will require drive shaft and
floorboard modifications for the relocation of the transmission. The kit
also includes a temperature sender adapter bushing that allows use of the
original sending unit with the Chevy engine.
It is critical that you use the special clutch assembly we offer. The clutch
that we recommend has a very short travel that makes it compatible with the
stock Land Cruiser slave cylinder. Failure to use this clutch assembly will
result in a situation where your transmission will be nearly impossible to
shift. Use of this clutch requires a 168 tooth flywheel for an 11" clutch.
The engine can be equipped with either stock manifolds, or the optional
headers we offer. Headers are for use on FJ40 only, and will not fit the
wagons style Land Cruiser. This kit is compatible with Chevy in-line 6
cylinder engines simply by changing the motor mounts in the kit at time of
purchase for no additional charge. When ordering kit, specify V-8 or 6
cylinder application.
The stock Land Cruiser alternator can be retained by
simply changing to the narrow alternator pulley listed. For questions
