Chevy V-8 into Land Cruisers with 3 Speed Transmission 1963-1973

This kit is designed to mate a Chevy Small Block V-8 to the stock Land Cruiser 3 speed transmission as found on 1963-1973 Land Cruisers. The conversion components are manufactured to provide the best possible engine location with the least amount of modifications. The adapter for mating the stock 3 speed tranny is a simple spacer plate which does not require any special transmission modifications. The engine mounts are made for either bolting or welding into the existing frame rails, can be adjusted for various engine positions, and feature a unique design that provides a positive means of holding the engine to the frame, while cushioning shock and engine vibrations. With these mounts it is impossible to separate the engine from the frame without shearing the bolts. The rear support for the drivetrain consists of a special crossmember that bolts to the back of the Toyota transfer case and extends outward to the frame rails. To install this rear crossmember there will be some welding required due to the large holes in the frame. To position the engine with the proper firewall clearances it is required to relocate the transfer case forward a minimum of 3-1/2". This can be accomplished by reversing the front and rear drive shafts.

The kit also includes: A special clutch release lever with ball pivot snap ring. A slave cylinder mounting bracket to attach the stock slave cylinder to any Chevy bellhousing and properly align it to the clutch release fork. A transfer case pivot bracket is supplied for those that are still running a vacuum transfer case. A temperature sending adapter bushing that allows the stock temp sender to be used with the Chevy engine, and finally a clutch release bearing.

It is critical that you use the special clutch assembly we offer. The clutch that we recommend has a very short travel that makes it compatible with the stock Land Cruiser slave cylinder. Failure to use this clutch assembly will result in a situation where your transmission will be nearly impossible to shift. Use of this clutch requires a 168 tooth flywheel for an 11" clutch. The 3 speed transmission must be a floor shift model, if not you must convert to the floor shift by means of the kit we offer to accomplish this. The engine can be equipped with either stock manifolds, or the optional headers we offer. This kit is compatible with Chevy in-line 6 cylinder engines simply by changing the motor mounts in the kit at time of purchase for no additional charge. When ordering kit, specify V-8 or 6 cylinder application.
