Why a foam filter? Simply
because they work better than gauze or paper filters. Paper or gauze
filters are a random weave of paper or cloth strands that can only filter
out particles that are larger than the smallest hole. Every time it
stops a particle of dirt it plugs a hole, when the holes plug up, it
filters better, but it loses its ability to flow air. As the vacuum
increases, it starts dislodging dirt particles the filter trapped earlier,
passing them into your engine.
Man-A-Fre Foam Air Filters
use a unique open cell polyurethane foam especially designed for air
filtration. The foam filter media utilizes a very uniform network of
"sticky" strands (10,800 per cubic inch) forming a maze that the dirty
incoming air cannot avoid. Air contaminated with dirt is pulled through
the entire volume of the foam element (not just the surface). The dirt
sticks to the strands, but does not necessarily block the opening. Virtually
no dirt can escape this filtration process. Higher volumes of air can
pass through the filter due to the depth of the filtration element.
When cleaning is required, simply wash the element in grease cutting
dish washing detergent and re-oil the filter as often as needed. Since
our foam filters are made of polyurethane (plastic) they are much more
durable than the cloth strands used in gauze filters and can be cleaned
and re-oiled many more times than a gauze filter. All of these advantages
make Man-A-Fre Foam Air Filters the best filtering, most economical
air filter available for your Land Cruiser. Available for stock air
filter housings using paper filter elements from E-through 1996.
