ENGINE MAF
HI-PERFORMANCE REBUILT
Having had a chance to put about two thousand miles on my new Man-A-Fre
High-Performance 2F engine, I wanted to send you this note to tell you
how amazed I am by its performance. Like many FJ60 owners, I agonized
over which direction to take when the time came to put a new engine in
my truck. Internet chat-rooms are flooded with conflicting opinions
about the pros and cons of V8 conversions, versus
2F rebuilds, and frankly I was very apprehensive about which way to go.
When I finally decided to go with your engine I did so largely because
of your experience with the 2F, and your assurance that it would deliver
the type of performance I needed for all-around driving and heavily
loaded, overland off-roading.
As you know, I wasn't necessarily looking for V8-like performance, but I
was looking for an engine that could make short work of a mountain grade
while still being able to idle down to almost nothing on the trail...
and then pull out with authority. What I have received from Man-A-Fre is
a 2F that absolutely surpasses my expectations, rivals the V8s I have
driven and keeps me looking for excuses to go drive my Toyota some more.
Around town it is incredibly tractable with an diesel-like ability to
lug. In fact, I inadvertently pulled away from a stop sign in 3rd gear,
and other than lacking the zip I've gotten used to in 1st, it just
pulled right out. But as you know, 2Fs have always been good at lugging
so it's what's on the other end that I was initially wondering about and
that's where my jaw has just about come unhinged. When the secondaries
on that Aisin carburetor open up anywhere near 2300 RPM... you better be
ready to go, NOW! And this engine keeps going "NOW" all the way up to
the redline. It's no exaggeration when I say that its performance can
actually create some scary predicaments... as I discovered recently
while navigating Northern California's mountainous Redwood Highway.
Suffice it to say that this 2F is capable of making things happen much
more quickly than the steering and suspension of a stock FJ-60 are
designed for. Fortunately for me, the brakes are a different story.
Anyway, I couldn't wait to share my experience with you. I am so happy
that I didn't go with a V8 and all the advice you gave regarding how to
massage the 2F for seamless, all-around performance was dead-on. Plus,
my FJ60 has remained a true Toyota. If you come across any reluctant
customers who are caught up in the great engine debate... feel free to
send them my way and I'll share my experience first-hand.
All the best,
Christopher Wood
