PROJECT GREEN FJ40

We had a customer with a
1978 FJ40 ask us if we could do some restoration work on the vehicle
that had been in his family and carried some sentimental value for him.
This work would include a new aluminum body tub, H55 transmission
install w/parking brake drum,
hi-performance 2F with ceramic headers, DUI ignition, and a Weber 38,
Old Man Emu suspension, 4+Plus front and rear bumpers, 28 gallon under
seat tank, 4+Plus roll cage, procar seats, tuffy console, etc, etc, etc.
We decided to put up some pictures of this job, so you can get an idea
of what is possible with your FJ40, also to show some of
the work we do in our shop.
We will start out showing the vehicle as it first came to us, then
disassembly and prep work, and add pictures as often as we can until
the project is done.
AXLE REBUILDING
We've provided before and after photos to give
an idea of the type of work done in our shop. Axle rebuilding is done on a
custom order basis, specifically for a customers needs. Axles are built with
either standard or hardened birfields, and brakes from stock configuration
to our top of the line DBA 4000 series rotors with appropriately matched
brake pads, and steel braided brake lines. All bearings, gaskets, seals,
rotors, pads, shoes, drums, hardware, wheel cylinders, etc. are replaced.
All calipers are rebuilt. Axles are cleaned and painted or powdercoated to
customers specifications. Spring perches can be moved for spring over
applications, and front
axle knuckles rotated to customers spec. Widened axle housings with custom
Longfield inner and outer axles are also available. Axles can be ordered
with or without differential. Differentials also available in various R&P
ratios, and with or without air locker. All axles are

AXLE REBUILD |
1FZFE BALANCED BLUE PRINTED ENGINE
This is a balanced blueprinted 1FZFE, with
forged, low
compression (that's right we lowered the CR to 8.5:1) pistons.
Installed into a 1995 FZJ80, we then turned up the boost on the
Safari Inter-cooled turbo to 10psi, and got 375hp. To control the heat
from all that hp we ended up scrapping the stock radiator, fan, and
fan clutch. We then installed a custom built 5 row, staggered core,
flat finned, triple pass radiator with a Flex-A-Lite dual electronic
variable speed fan system, twin trans coolers, and an additional
cooler tied into the turbine coolant feed system. We also converted
the vehicle to 4.56:1 gears, and upgraded the brakes. It is quite the
performer.
