1) Support vehicle frame rails either on a hoist, or 4 large jack stands. Removal of wheels will give easier access especially if working on jack stands.

2) Unbolt and remove sway bar links if equipped, & shock absorbers .

3) Unbolt & remove U-bolt plates and U-bolts

4) Support axle with jack stands

5) Unbolt and remove shackles. On 60 series it will be necessary to disconnect and move exhaust system at left rear to facilitate removal of shackle.

6) Unbolt and remove fixed pin, remove old spring assembly.

7) Remove old bushings from shackle brackets. Install new bushings, grease liberally. Do not install bushing into outside of left rear mount

8) Prepare leaf spring. Install bushings into ends, grease liberally.

9) 60 series rear springs are side sensitive. The spring with the higher arch goes to the left(drivers side). This is to offset weight bias to the left rear corner. Typically springs designated with an “A” have the higher arch, and the “B” spring is lower. If there is a question, put the springs upside down on the ground next to each other and the higher unit with more arc will be visually apparent.

10) Install the leaf spring to the fixed pin mount on the frame. Install fixed pin locating bolt, and secure main nut w/lock washer. Install grease zerk fitting.

11) On rear springs, install center bolt spacer to center pin as shown. This will properly locate spring to saddle and keep axle from moving under load. DO NOT reinstall rubber isolator or capture bracket from old spring

12) Assemble one side of anti inversion shackle.

13) Lubricate greasable pins. Align spring/shackle/frame and install shackle. On left rear shackle, install outer bushing to upper pin. This will allow installation at an angle to help clear exhaust as shown.

14) Install shackle side plate, lock washers and nuts. Tighten. Install zerk fittings.

15) Install U-bolts, and Plates. Make sure shock pin is in proper location. Tighten nuts, if using a torque wrench torque U-bolt nuts to 90 ft lbs.

16) Install bushings into shock eyes. Install shock absorber. On front upper pin mount, install washer and lower bushing. Install upper bushing, washer and lock nut after installation into frame bracket. Tighten retaining nuts. When tightening pin type shock mount, tighten until bushings slightly bulge. Do not overtighten.

17) Install front sway bar links with nut on top and bolt head on bottom. Tighten until bushings slightly bulge.

18) On vehicles equipped with rear sway bar. Measure links. Cut links in half. Slide an extending tube over link. Make sure openings are parallel and the links are the same length approximately 2-3” longer than original depending on lift height. Weld. Paint when cooled, reinstall.

19) Steering dampener. Remove retaining nuts and separate old unit from mounts with ball joint separator or “pickle fork”. Install mounting pins into steering dampener and tighten retaining nuts. Install dampener to frame and relay rod and tighten.

20) Remove jack stands supporting axles. If wheels were removed reinstall. Lower vehicle to ground. Torque lug nuts if removed. Visually inspect vehicle. Test drive vehicle. Re-inspect and check all nuts/bolts for tightness and proper fit.
